A Blogging Refresher

Today I took a midday break to get a perspective about blogging from one of Nevada City's blogging superstars: Erin Thiem from the Outside Inn. Her approach to blogging is so beautiful and simple... she often uses more images than words. Take a peek at her blog InnSide Nevada City. She definitely makes me see my town in new ways, and now she has helped me to see blogging in new ways.

Part of me would love to blog the way Erin does, but she loves to take photos more than I do. I like words, and I like to write. She kept telling us all to make sure we blog about what we love, and blog the way we love to do it. Each blogger needs to be true to themselves... yet I'll aim for writing more concise posts in an effort to be more accessible to more people.

She also hammered home points about finding your blog's voice, defining its mission, and being consistent. That last point is important... don't create a blogging goal that you can't or don't want to maintain. Blogging should be fun and be something you are passionate about.

Consistency is not my strong point in this realm, but it's a new year with new goals. I did revisit my blog's mission and purpose so revised some of my "About" pages accordingly... which is probably more helpful for me than it is for my readers.

The list goes on with what I learned... yet I will take a page from today's seminar and keep it brief. Maybe, just maybe, my blog will morph into something more visual in coming months... time will tell on that front.
