How do you hold space for yourself?
How do you hold space for yourself?
And what does holding space for yourself look like?
One of the paradoxes in my own life is that I mostly hold space for myself in groups.
Don't get me wrong, I spend a lot of time alone.
To you this may be a luxury, but alone time does not equate to time for yourself. It often equates to cooking, creating, writing, working in peace and tending to other parts of your world.
When I join book groups, women’s circles, yoga classes and other groups dedicated to a deeper intention with deeper work, that's where I find myself. I can meet her and see where this deeper part of myself is at. I'm not holding the space. It's being held for me.
That's what I need to stretch and have room to expand beyond all the weight and expectations that life puts on us or we put on ourselves. I need someone to help hold this space and keep me in the vibration of holding space for myself (because, hello, we are all tempted and distracted to pull out of this space when holding it for ourselves).
The question I'm now wondering is,
Is it possible to hold space for yourself?
Because holding space is a misnomer. What’s actually needed is permission to let go. A relaxing of your grip so you can stop holding.
The deeper yearning is to be held.
That's why I come back around to saying the best way I hold space for myself is with others.
You may relate if you see a therapist or coach, get bodywork, take classes or gather with groups that have set intentions beyond catching up.
The shared container is important. It creates less holding. There's an honoring that comes with putting the appointment on your calendar and showing up, but beyond that, there's a relaxing. A permission to be.
This is the tending that happens below the surface. That happens when you can actually stop holding. You show up. You are guided. You are seen in your intention and in your showing up. You are seen without the polished veneer of needing to be pulled together. You can relax, be with you and be with others being with themselves.
If you're yearning to hold more space for yourself, I can help alleviate that pressure by holding the space for you, whether through seasonal Recalibrate circles or 1:1 coaching.
You deserve to be held.
