2015 Word for the Year: TRUST

Last year was my first time picking a word for the year. I’d heard of this practice before, but there’s a large contingent who do it in my town of Nevada City and in my online world thanks to poet Molly Fisk. It’s one of those practices that requires regular prompting for me to warm up to the idea and then actually set aside some time to make happen.05A-namasteAt the end of 2013 it took me a couple of weeks to find the word that rang true for me. It took my boyfriend all of 10 seconds. It’s different for everyone. This year I’d started wondering what my word would be, and then it came to me during a special storytelling event on Winter Solstice.05B-winter-solsticeWhen the word popped in my mind during a quiet moment of introspection during the sacred healing storytelling circle, I fought it and kept trying to grasp at other concepts. But there it was — TRUST was throbbing in my mind. Every other concept I tried to grasp — freedom, clarity, financial abundance, risk, adventure, partnership, exciting business directions — they all came back to TRUST. More clearly, TRUST would lead the way and get me to those desired destinations.05C-trustMy 2014 word was MORPH, and I’ve felt wonderful results of that upon reflection. TRUST has immediately challenged me in ways both small and large, and 2015 hasn’t even begun yet.On New Year’s Eve (actually just as the clocks pass midnight into January 1), I’ll be taking the biggest leap of all by getting on a plane to Asia for a 5-week adventure in Vietnam. If that’s not an act of trust, I don’t know what is.I’d love to hear your word for 2015 and what it brings up for you if you are so inclined to share. This practice is so much more fun than new year resolutions as it represents a guidepost the whole year through and can help with alignment as new ideas and opportunities pop up throughout the year. Happy New Year!
