Writing keeps you curious about yourself
Free writing allows words to flow from your pen that you hadn't realized were thoughts, desires, dreams floating unexpressed inside you. Give it a shot. With practice, this technique creates a safe space for your soul to stretch her wings.
Getting started with Free Writing
Grab pen and paper, and set a timer for 7–12 minutes. Keep your pen moving till the timer chimes no matter what, even if you rewrite the prompt or repeat words or write "I don't know what to say...." Ultimately more is coming. Pushing past the blocks and pauses literally takes the writing deeper as your soul feels safe and realizes it will be heard.
Writing Prompt: Where do I find strength?
To get flowing, after starting the timer, write the question out and follow it by "I find strength..." and keep going from there.
This is good practice in sending the internal editor and judge out for a walk. Try to write so fast that you can't even process what's coming. Maybe you won't even be able to read it! No spelling or punctuation rules apply.
When your writing time has ended, try reading what you wrote out loud to yourself (or do this with a friend) with a rule that no editing, questions or comments are needed. Conclude with a simple, “Thank you for sharing.”
Want to learn more about Free Writing?
Free Writing has been around for as long as there’s been writing! This tool helps get through blocks. It’s useful for both journaling as well as any other style of writing to dump as much as possible. You can go over it when you’re done to see what’s there. That’s a whole separate phase. You must first create a safe space for flow, and Free Writing can do just that. For more in-depth instruction, watch my video on YouTube to Learn Free Writing.
